News from Peppa Pig and family

George is introduced as moderately deaf

There is news from the Peppa Pig universe. It is now revealed that Peppa’s little brother, George, is moderately deaf and is fitted with a hearing aid, as part of a new storyline shared by Hasbro. With this storyline, a new and recognisable dimension is added to the universe – told at a child’s level and as a natural part of family life.

A story about everyday life and joy

In the story, we follow George as he receives his hearing aid and experiences the joy and new possibilities it brings to his play and interactions with his family. The narrative is simple and warm, showing that there is a place for every child in Peppa’s world.

Representation in the Peppa Pig universe

The Peppa Pig universe has previously worked with representation and diversity, including the introduction of Penny, a polar bear character with two mums. George’s story adds another familiar layer to a universe where different families, children and everyday lives exist side by side.

Play, learning and understanding the world

At Barbo Toys, this development is welcomed as a natural extension of a universe that reflects the world children live in.

“At Barbo Toys, we believe that play and learning go hand in hand. Toys and stories help reflect the world children grow up in and also support learning by encouraging understanding of the diversity that exists around us,” says Helle Louise Holst, CEO of Barbo Toys.

“When universes such as Peppa Pig make room for more nuances of real life, it creates recognition and supports children’s curiosity and understanding of the world we are all part of.”

A natural extension of a familiar universe

The introduction of George’s hearing aid is another example of how a well-known universe can continue to grow with new stories that reflect children’s everyday lives – with warmth, recognisability and room for everyone.
